Year 2 Day 25: Louisiana Legends and Lore

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 25. Today's recommended book is a new release from The History Press : Louisiana Legends & Lore by Alan Brown.

In this book we take a tour through Louisiana looking at some of the more interesting places and hearing the legends that surround them.. From this area three places made the list: The Myrtles Plantation of course well known for their hauntings, The St Francisville Civil War Truce, and a legend of treasure chests at Parlange Plantation in Point Coupee . Now that was one I had not heard but found VERY interesting, I wonder if those gold and silver coins are still down there somewhere ! And of course there are lots more stories from other parts of the state.

This paperback book is 159 pages and currently sells for $ 21.99 a copy

Year 2 Day 24: Do You Know ? Oceans

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 4. Today's recommended book is : Do You Know? Oceans and Marine Life by Stephanie Babin.

Earlier this week I recommended the first book in this series : Do You Know? Dinosaurs . As I mentioned then this series has been out in France for some time and actually has over 30 books in the series to help educate 4-8 year olds each on a different topic. Well, when the second book

Oceans and Marine Life" arrived I decided to check it out as well and since I liked it I wanted to tell you a bit about it as well .

What I like most about this one is that as an Ocean Primer it is just not all fish and boats. The book starts out with pages about different bodies of water - even different temperatures of water, later in the book it tells you what fish live in each of those different temperature waters. But then there are also sections on things to do at the beach: swimming, picnicking, looking for small creatures and shells , even scuba diving and water sports. Just so much information . It would be a great book to read with a little one in anticipation of a trip to the beach later this summer , by the time you get to the beach they will be absolutely ready to play and discuss.

I can't wait to see which topic comes out next ! These hard cover books with shiny foil binding books sell for $ 16.99 a copy.

Year 2 Day 23: And Then There Were None

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 23. Today's recommended book is "And Then There Were None" by Agatha Christie only when Agatha Christie wrote it it was actually titled " Ten Little Indians" The title was changed some years ago but it does not change the fact that this is a really good book.

In this book 10 strangers , each with a dark secret, are invited to an island by a mystery host. One at a time guests keep dying off, and as they do a group of little indian figurines also reduce in number... Until there were none. Classic Agatha Christie in a keep you guessing mystery.

I originally read this book (under the old title) several years ago but it has been on my mind again since I read "The Mystery of Mrs. Christie" by Marie Benedict (see Chatting Books Online Day 304) and I think I might read a bit more Agatha Christie this summer as well so don't be surprised if you see more of her titles in this space over the coming months.

We currently carry this book in a paperback. It is 300 pages and sells for $8.99 a copy.

Year 2 Day 19: Flags Along the Way

Chatting Books Online Year 2 Day 19. Today's recommended book is: Flags Along the Way : A Pictorial Journey Through the History of West Feliciana Parish with Text and Photography by Gail L. Chisum.

We carry several books about West Feliciana . Some are history books, others are beautiful coffee table books featuring the homes and churches of the area. What I like about this book is that it is both. It tells the history of the Parish by tracing it through time and dividing the book's sections by whose flag flew over the area when a certain structure was built. So the homes, churches and other structures are included in order of their building but at the beginning of each section it tells a bit about the history of who held control of the area at that time ( Spanish, French, British, The Republic of West Florida, or American) then it goes into a bit of history about each building. And if that were not enough to recommend this beautifully photographed book , my house (built in 1803 while Spain held the area) is in it , so of course I love it.

This hardcover coffee table is 252 pages and sells for $ 49.95. We currently have copies signed by the author , West Feliciana's own, Gail Chisum
