Year 2 Day 18: Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 18. Today's recommended book is a children's book that came up in conversation several times at the bookshop last week. That book is : Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day by Judith Viorst.

Poor Alexander, he is having a bad day. It starts with gum in the hair and just gets worse, squished in the middle car seat, no desert with lunch, sneakers he doesn't like, mud puddles... the list goes on. For some reason he keeps mentioning that he will just go to Australia - I guess he thinks there are no bad days there. Until his mother explains that some days are just like that....even in Australia. I find it to be a fun book to read aloud just because it is fun to say "Terrible, Horrible, No Good, very Bad Day" on each page , but that's just me.

We sell this book in a board book style for $7.99 a copy.

Year 2 Day 16: a Place Like Mississippi

Chatting Books Online Year 2 , Day 16. Today's recommended book is: A Place Like Mississippi: A Journey through a real and imagined itinerary landscape by W. Ralph Eubanks.

In this book W. Ralph Eubanks takes us on a journey through Mississippi and the books that it has inspired. The sense of place plays such a big part in Southern Literature and particularly in stories set in Mississippi , this book helps illuminate that influence. From the writing of classic Mississippi authors like Eudora Welty and William Faulkner to contemporary authors like Greg isles, John Grisham , Richard Grant, Julia Reed and Natasha Trethaway and so many in between. Some authors set their books in real places like Natchez, and others use real Mississippi as a template for a make believe place like Yoknapatawpha , either way Mississippi is unmistakable as a character in the story.

In reading this book i actually made a list of places to travel (short trip to Oxford in the planning stages already) and books to either read or re-read (why have I never read North Toward Home by Willie Morris or The Snopes Family stories by Faulkner?). It was a great way to gain an insight into our neighboring state and the authors it has given us . .

This hardcover book is 268 pages and currently sells for $27.95 a copy.

We found a new book to help me start my first vegetable garden with The Beginner's Guide to Growing Great Vegetables and then a new novel with "Crawdads" vibes with The Girls in the Stilt House.

We wrapped up the week with a couple of favorite children's books in the magical pop-up version of The Wizard of Oz and the board book "Five Little Monkeys Jumping on the Bed".
