Year 2, Day 104: The Betrayed

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 104. Okay, here is a first for me. I am going to recommend a book to you today that I have not actually read ... yet.

Today's recommended book is a new novel just released this week . It is the next installment in The Selection series by author Kiera Cass. And while I have not read any of the books in this young adult series , which judging from the amount of copies we sell you to young ladies , is very popular I understand they are quite good and very readable. The series has been described as The Hunger Games meets The Bachelor , which sounds pretty interesting to me so I have full intention to read the entire series some day. Just don't know where it fits into my TBR (To Be Read) pile but I could not let this much anticipated new release go by without letting all the Selection fans out there know it was released on Tuesday the 29th of June and we already have copies in store - so come on and get them!

This 304 page novel , with a suggested target age range of 13-17, is currently available in hardcover only and sells for $19.99 a copy.

Year 2, Day 102 : Emma

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 102. Today's recommended book is :Emma by Jane Austen. My favorite edition currently is from the Chiltern Classics collection. These books are beautifully bound in hardcover with foiled decoration on the cover , gilded pages, a satin page marker ribbon and heavy pages. If you haven't seen the collection (and started collecting them yourself) you should.

In this classic by Jane Austen Emma Woodhouse is pretty, clever , and rich. All thighs that give her many advantages but she is also all in everyone else's business and this can lead her into trouble. In this case she decides she is going to find a suitable husband for a friend , Harriet Smith. Of course, her plans goes horribly awry , Emma learns the folly of her ways , and after a series of painful mistakes, meets her own match in the process.

Get swept away to the English countryside while reading this beautiful hardcover edition that is 508 pages and currently sells for $25.00 a copy.

Year 2, Day 100 : The Hummingbird Handbook

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 100. Today's recommended book is : The Hummingbord Handbook by John Shewey.

I don't know about you but I find hummingbirds almost magical. When they dart in front of you quick as lightning hoovering with wings moving so quickly you cannot even see them I am always amazed. Well here is a book all about them. It starts with Hummingbird, Trivia, Facts, Fiction and Folklore ( fascinating reading) , and continues on to types of hummingbirds, plants they like and how to grow them, and where they travel. Basically as the cover says "Everything you need to know about the fascinating birds".

The book is available in paperback. It is 240 pages amd currently sells for $ 24.95 a copy.

Year 2 , Day 99 : The Nature of Oaks

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 99. Today's recommended book is : The Nature of Oaks: The Rich Ecology of Our Most Essential Native Treesby Douglas Tallamy.

If the author's name sound familiar it should. Douglas Tallamy has visited here in St Francisville to speak at the Southern Garden Symposium and his book Bringing Nature Home is a past chatting books recommendation and a favorite at The Conundrum. In his new book he talks about the amazing benefits of oak trees in your gardens. I have to say I listened to this book on a recent road trip with my husband and we were both absolutely fascinated by the book but of course in audio (particularly while driving) you cannot take notes so I needed a hardcover copy as well. I thought I knew something about oak trees having lived under their shade my entire life but I had no idea the benefits they bring. It is amazing to see how many species of caterpillars are supported by oaks (around 300 as opposed to common landscape trees like crepe myrtles which house less than 100 species). I learned so many reasons to keep my oak leaf mulch and use it throughout my garden I will never burn another pile of oak leaves and my garden will be all the better for it. The book is arranged by month starting in October (for no other reason than that is the month he started writing the book ) and in these monthly sections Mr. Tallamy tells you what is happening in, on and around your oak tree in each month of the year. So much information that will change the way you look at the mighty oak.

Our first supply of this new book will arrive at The Conundrum today , the book is currently available in hardcover at 200 pages and selling for $27.95 a copy.

Year 2, Day 98: Who Dat Baby

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 98 Today's recommended book is: Who Dat Baby? A Louisiana Baby's Book of Firsts written and illustrated by Allison Dugas Behan.

I guess I have a new favorite baby shower gift book. This is a baby book in the " you fill in the pages" sense of the term like our mother's made for us way back when we were small but this one is geared to all things Louisianacentric. It starts with the inside cover being a sign in for the baby shower (great idea) . Then there are the usual things likes baby's name and birth info , but that page is titled "Bienveue " instead of welcome. Next up there is a family tree where the illustration is a bead tree. Then we get the usual : footprint, handprint, first address, pictures from each month and pages for each of the 1st and 2nd birthday parties and these are all delightfully decorated with iconic New Orleans and Louisiana images. But then the fun really begins as there are pages to record baby's first beignet, red beans and rice, crawfish, snoball etc as well as their first parade, saints game, swamp tour, fishing trip, and festival. What a Great Idea!

This hardcover keepsake book currently sells for $24.95 a copy. I can see why the first printing sold out so quickly!

Year 2, Day 97: The Princess Bride A Counting Story

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 97. Today's recommended book is:The Princess Bride, A Counting Story.

Seriously ? ! ? ! Someone took my favorite book (though the back cover claims this is actually based on my favorite movie - you know , the likenesses I guess) and made a version for 0-3 year olds!!! Well you know I love it. It starts with "1 story" and has a picture of grandpa reading THE BOOK to his grandson who is sick in bed, and continues counting to 10 but my favorite page is 6. Did you guess it ? six is for "6 fingers" on the 6 fingered man much searched for by Inigo Montoya.

Introduce your little ones to the best book and the best movie ever in this new counting board book currently selling for $8.99 a copy.
