Year 2, Day 88: A History of Tea

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 88 . Today's recommended book is :A History of Tea: The Life and Times of the World's Favorite Beverage by Laura C. Martin.

As you may know The Conundrum handles book sales for several gardening festivals, symposium and events. Well at one such event last September I met the fine folks from Mizell's Camellia Hill Nursery . This was the first I learned that most tea consumed in the world comes from one variety of Camellia bush, so of course I bought 2 of them. Then this past month Mizell's was giving a presentation on growing and preparing tea at another gardening seminar where we were selling books and I learned about this book which Mary Mizell recommended if you want to learn more on the subject, so of course I immediately ordered them.

I like tea - a lot. I drink both hot and Iced tea nearly every day of every year. I carry tea bags in my purse in case I go somewhere that I fear may not have my favorites and I simply cannot go without it so when I read the first sentence in this book "I love tea and drink a lot of it" I knew I would approve of the book; and approve I do!. The book starts with learning about the types of Camellias used to make tea , the definitions of terms used in tea preparing and tea grading , and more information on the production of teas. From there we learn about the history of tea and how it spread around the world. There are also sections on drinking tea (best foods, best times of day, etc) Great information on my favorite beverage.

On this past weekend I traveled to The Windsor Court where I was able to share tea with my Mother and 3 of my nieces. It is something we used to do with my Grandmother many years ago and I was so happy to be able to introduce these young ladies to Tea and share this experience with them. That is the Windsor Court’s lovely tea cups in the picture . .

This book is currently available in paperback at The Conundrum. It is 216 pages and sells for $14.99 a copy.

Chatting Books Online Year 2, Day 87. The Week in Review June 7 - June 13 , 2021.

Thanks for joining us again this week as we sent out new book recommendations out to you. At the beginning of each week I have no idea what I am going to recommend in the coming week and each Sunday I so enjoy this wrap up session as I get to look back on each book we talked about this week.

This week I recommended a variety of books including two hot off the presses new novels with Lauren Weisberger's Where the Grass is Green and the Girls are Pretty and Mary Kay Andrew's The Newcomer as well as a novel that has been out a while longer but never stopped selling in Greg Iles' The Quiet Game. We also restocked and recommended a favorite in the children's section with the My Little Village Book and Puzzle Sets and we started carrying a new collection of puzzle books in steno flip pad form. Finally we wandered out into the woods to learn about Southeast Foraging .

If you missed any of these reviews and want to read what I had to say about them you can see all of our Chatting Books Online picks by visiting our website at: http://www.conundrumbooks.com/chatting-books-online .

Chatting Books Online Year 2 , Day 81 Today's book of the day is: Where the Grass is Green and the Girls Are Pretty by Lauren Weisberger.

You recognize the name Lauren Weisberger from her previous novels : " The Devil Wears Prada and "When Life Gives You Lululemons" among others. Well, this is her newest.

Ripped from the headlines in this book we meet Peyton Marcus. Peyton is America's favorite morning news anchor living the life of her dreams after much hard work getting there. That is until a new round of college admission scandals breaks during her broadcast one morning and soon afterward her entire world starts crumbling. A good light read , heavy on relationships and funny character descriptions ( you know you recognize those women who won't even allow themselves a kiddie sized ice cream cone and spend their entire life focused on being in the right place, at the right time while wearing the right clothes).

The book is currently available in hardcover. It is 351 pages and sells for $28.00 a copy.
