Year 2, Day 79: Epossumondas

Chatting Books Online Year 2 , Day 79. Today's book of the day is :Epossumondas written by Coleen Salley.

This classic tale from renowned Louisiana storyteller Coleen Salley is sure to delight you. It tells the tale (pun intended of course) of a little pet opossum named Epossumondas who was both his (human) Momma and Auntie's sweet little patootie. They spoiled sweet Epossumandas and he would go visit his Auntie nearly every day and nearly every visit she would give him a gift of some sort to bring home only Epossumondas didn't know how he should carry cake, butter, a puppy, etc and so by the time he got home the gift would be ruined. His momma lamented he didn't have the sense he was born with and would try to explain , only to have it go badly again the next day.

After you read this delightful tale you will learn in the back of the book about the oral tradition of storytelling and in learning that with discover that this is an adaptation of a much older story in the "noodlehead story" variety. Noodlehead stories are stories with non-intentional mishaps told in a gentle humor.

I loved learning more about the oral tradition of storytelling and as an added bonus when you buy this book you will also get a code to listen to the audio of the author Coleen Salley , whom the world of storytelling lost more than 10 years ago, reading the story aloud in her fantastic southern Louisiana accent. What a treat !
