Day 355: The Book of Longings

Chatting Books Online Day 355. Today's recommended book is The Book of Longings by Sue Monk Kidd.

When I first heard about this book I did not think it was for me, but I kept hearing good things so I gave it a read. The reason I did not immediately dive in was that it is written as a memoir of a woman name Ana, who was the wife of Jesus and the sister of Judas. I could not imagine how this could possibly be written with due respect but let me say that Sue Monk Kidd did a beautiful job of weaving a fictional yet reverential story that ties in just about every New Testament story ever told in a way that at once seems perfectly plausible and also completely respectful of my Christian beliefs. In each new chapter I looked forward to see how she could tie together what I knew was coming but could not see being played out with the additional character of "the wife" . This book is a thought provoking page turner .

It is currently only available in hardcover at $28.00 a copy, but spoiler alert , it is scheduled to be released in paperback at $17 a copy on March 23, 2021. So let us know if you prefer hardcover now or paperback at the end of the month (assuming things are not rescheduled or delayed) .
